It depends really.

Some of them make you live longer like the Armor planting and the resistance modules. Others help to increase your mechs maximum ammo of rockets and/or bullets. While other help keep your mech from overheating fast and give you more energy to use.

So, you will have a better chance at winning if you have modules on your mech compared to someone who has non, or a bad combination of modules equipped.
