In my experience in BD(some 1000 ticks on E1) I always see that a basic military scan is only 50% accurate. therefore i calculated that the target has only 50% to 150% of the units mentioned in the scan.

Ex.Op 17 has 10 units as showed by a basic military scan
since that the scan is only 50% correct, it is sure that there are 5 units.
now that the margin of error is 100%, we can say that there are 5-15 units in Op17. then when I attacked, there was 14 units.

pls. post if you see any mistakes or is a little confusing

Wrong.

If a scan says 100 units with a variation of 50%. It does not mean that it is 50% of 100, it means the scan can vary up to 50% either way.

Thus, a 100 unit scan with 50% variation is anywhere between 50 and 150 units.

A 100 unit scan with 25% variation is anywhere between 75 and 125 units.

in your second example, which i believe is a advanced scan the accuracy is only 25% for that kind of scan. that should mean that the variable is 75% instead of 25%.

just saw it just felt itching for a correction

The percentage shown on the scan is the range of variability. A 25% scan can vary 25% each way (between -25% and +25% of the number of units shown on the scan)

No scan has a 75% variable.

No. You get 25%/50% randomly. It does not depend on the type of scan you do.

I'm pretty sure that the variation is 25% of the true number of units. I'm certain I've already had battles with armies twice as large as my scan revealed when I didn't also use an adv. scan.

The scan variation is 25%/50% (depending on the scan) of the true number of units. You'll never had a battle with more than 50% of what the scan revealed unless more units were sent afterwards.

I've spent some time checking out the scans and it's

50% Variably for the standard scan. Meaning like you guys said if on a Basic Scan you get a read-out of 60 units. They could have as few as 30 or as many as 90.

The advanced scan however only has a 25% variably rate. Meaning if you see 60 units on that one they could have 45 - 75. Hence the advanced costs double because it's literally twice as accurate.

The best way to go however if you have energy to burn is to do both. If on the basic scan you get 20 that means they have between 10 and 30 units. Combined with the accuracy of the advanced scan, that may read out 28. Meaning that the true numbers are between 21 and 30. This keeps you from being surprised by a scan that was off more than 40% as that can be a dramatic difference. (Thinking they may only have 10 guys, when they really have 30)

If however you do the first scan and it comes out... say 4 units. Well sir you've just saved yourself 20 energy, because at most all they have is a handful of guys.

ALSO when the two are combined you get a exact percentage of the Chassis being used (basic scan) as well as an exact percent of the weapons they carry (advanced scan). 8-)
