Research shows that solid, uninterrupted 8 hours of sleep a night, is relatively new for human society, and that segmented sleep was far more common in the past, and may be more natural. So here's the question, would you ever try to get into a segment sleep pattern (e.g. 4hrs sleep, 1hr awake, 4hrs sleep)? You can feel better rested, less stressed, and keep an eye on BD in the middle of the night. Or would you find it hard to go to bed an hour earlier, can't be bothered to try, or just dislike change?

i would definitely try it. But i've heard of a different segmented sleep pattern. The one where you sleep for 30 minutes several times per 24 hr cycle.

while segmented sleep sounds good for BD, and as well as any other activities that require short attentions, but repeatedly spanning for the whole day, it is not good for other activities that require full attentions (probably with short breaks here and there) for 5~10 hours a day, which is the big part (if not most) of daily life.
ppl study and work at day, and relax, sleep at night. This is not just "because it's there". Psychologically, most ppl feel more secured doing things under daylight. Darkness is always associated with bad and suspicious behaviors, not to mention things that ppl are scared of like ghosts. Even now with artificial lights, ppl still don't feel safe going out at night, unless it's something they do everyday.
Plus, biologically, trees and grass "breath out" oxygen in night and when the morning come, the amount of oxygen in the air is higher, thus make us feel better and work (or study) more effectively. This is why it is usually advised that homework should be done in early mornings rather than late at night.

third shift workers don't have as good working conditions as the others, hence they receive higher salary and better employees' benefits than the ones doing the same job in other shifts as compensation.

but segmented sleep means 3 hours of sleep? Nah, that's too much. Stay up all day, sleep for an hour, repeat lol.

No, you can have the normal amount of sleep, but with a break inbetween. Like the reverse of nap time in the middle of the day.
