Knowing when your enemies are online is always a great advantage to have when playing BattleDawn. Preventing them from quickly defending themselves or calling for help! This will working best during the first couple hundred rounds of any era before players start to built and deploy shields in their colonies.

Step 1: You can tell most of the time where someone or the majority of an alliance lives by looking at the flag located in the corner of a players icon. Depending on time difference the best time to catch your opponent is while they are sleeping our away at Work/School. Some people have access to Battledawn even at Work or School but it is your best bet other then late at night.
Step 2: Once you have your squads ready preferably as close as 3 ticks to your Target. You should send their colony a spam message, saying what ever you wish with a reasonable 'Subject'. At the same time send your squads to the Target. Login on to BattleDawn most people will go straight away to look at their messages. When a player opens your message it will show an indication in your Out box folder in your Mail. A read message will have a picture of an opened envelop located to the far left and an unread message a closed envelop. Indicating whether a player is online or not.
Don't forget to check this every round. If they are online and you think it is to risky then turn your squads around and try another day. Don't forget to jam the enemies colony. :D

1) One can easily put up whatever flag they choose, even if they don't live in the country said flag represents. Such as the case of naturalized people, who still carry pride in their home country. Also, many players prefer to leave the flag blank (or are too lazy to do anything about it). In other words, this isn't really effective.

2) There's an option called 'Mark as Unread', effectively making it seem to others (including the sender) that the meesage hasn't been opened, when in fact it has. This could work for the majority of players who can't resist reading PM's and unwittingly leaving them opened, but it's common strategy amongst more experienced players to mark PM's from unknown or hostile players.

~there's also radar op's and allied colonies, as well as pre-set scans, which can still allow the affected player to see. Effectively jamming someone can cost up to 100 Energy.

Just sayin'

My point is that the majority of players are no going to see that or understand that, the probability that people are going to lye about their country and mark all their messages as unread after reading is very low! This has prove to be a very effect technique for me in the past!

pretty good idea and this happens to me quite a bit.

Counters that i use to this strategy:

1. Have alliance members text/call me if my squads are in danger
2. Mark enemy spam messages unread for 24 ticks, the open them.

Another possible way is if you know their username (Forum name) then you can simply search through the list of all online players in the board index at the bottom. This will give a list of every single player whose online. However since this only works if you know their username it has its limits. Thats why i tend to create forum threads and PM them the thread so they all comment in it thus giving me their usernames to search for.
