My opinion would be people prefer to win with strategy, planning, and intelligent move making. Kits in their eyes would be more of a pay to win thing as you are throwing money to either make it easier or to make up for your mistakes.

Kits can be purchased with SM, so there is no pay-to-win feature in using kits at all. If you're saving up money, then sure kits can be annoying as they tend to feel like a waste of money.

However (and disagreeing with Korupt), Kits add a whole new strategy and planning to the game. If both players use kits in a match, you'll find yourself fighting a longer match than normal where 1 mistake will be punished more than a kit-less battle. Also one great thing about using kits is finding the right time to use them in your battle. Most players will use resistance kits on their first turn (which isn't the best option at level 16). What I've found is the best way to use resistance kits (if the enemy has used them already) is to put your enemy in to a position where they're out of weapon range of your mech or where they have to cooldown for one turn. That way they miss out on their turn deploying their kits and now miss out on half or another turn because they're out of position too, where as you only miss out on a turn deploying your kits.... It's things like this that I enjoy about kit battles because there's still strategy in using kits.

When I said pay to win I was not specific to currency, I did not mean real money but sm currency. Even though you aren't using dollars to win you are still paying for something to possibly create an unfair advantage. The situation you talked about was with both players using kits, what I referred to was if only one person is using kits. Obviously it is a bit ridiculous when you are spending more than you earn to win. I agree with you that kits can add strategy but I will still hold in that they can save your lack of strategy as well.
