Hey all!
I wanted to put up a post for any of you aspiring writers out there (or even those who simply like to read or write for the fun of it!). I recently got word of an event from our very own member Lawmpy and wanted to share it with all of you, should you wish to take advantage of it. If you need anymore information, I'd be happy to put you in contact with Lawmpy herself or you may feel free to add her on Skype (skype_id: Lawmpy) to learn more and join the BD NaNoWriMo group!
The event is the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo for short). You can access the site at
http://nanowrimo.org/ if you wish to sign up or learn more. You can write fiction, nonfiction, fanfiction, screenplay, game script, anything! Essentially the event is to promote and assist aspiring writers to create their very own work of 50,000 words within a month! Only a mere 1,667 words a day!
Everyone has that one story that they have carried around with them. NaNoWriMo is the perfect tool to break down any barriers into starting that first draft. Really, what better way can you spend that time between ticks?
There are a lot of resources available for any writers to take advantage of. You have local and online MLs for your region, who organize events to help you with your writing and connect with other authors - plus your fellow BD'ers! There are always amazing freebies associated with the event - software, gifts, certificates, and free printed copies of your edited work. NaNo will give you resources to reach out to professional editing/publishing companies AND winners are guaranteed a self-publishing option through Amazon! NaNoWriMo itself is not a site to post your work and will in no way store your novel, so all rights remain 100% yours!
Plus it is for a good cause! NaNoWriMo also functions as a charity under the Office of Letters and Light which promotes literacy across the world!
The preparation period begins in October (now!) - most regions have an irl and online workshops happening presently and a HalloNaNoWeen Party to get you a good start! So to all you creative minds out there, I highly suggest you take a look and give this wonderful opportunity a try!
