im not a nub im in opp2 rank 266 in mars 1 im still cunfused how people have huge squads do they just build alot of armourr or sumthin i dont never want to spend all my oil and metal i always try to preserve it u know should i stop that preserving and jusst spend it on stuff i need lik a huge squad lik other people???? and should i take some breaks for lik a day so i can build metal and oil and spend it on squads u know

Well, most people with large amounts of squads either boost (Red or Blue) or simply store up units, not attacking until they feel like it, or have lots of conquers, or some other means of resource production.
No, they do not just spam armour, large amounts of squads tend to be very carefully built, especially in a war situation.
And yes, other than building stuff, unit production is one of the main uses for resources. Preserving resources works on small amounts, but large resources alone can't win you a war or defend you.
