First of all - I would not see admins as the usual type of employee. They do not have an office, they get (from what i've picked up) way less then the minimum wage and they usually have another ("real") job or occupation.

Even Ilona and Simen, who do countless of extra things, help manage a company and go to university respectively. I think Seth was the only fulltime one(?).

They are largely players like you and me who passionately love the game and get a relatively small compensation for helping to maintain it. It's their playing, their connection to the community and the occasional thank you from the players that keeps them going. If they stop playing eras like this, they will stop understanding us, they will stop being able to represent us to the developers (because believe it or not, it's the World Admins who form the last and strongest bond between Dev and Player) accurately and we will start breeding admins who simply don't care.

Because unless this game suddenly grows in size many times over - many of them could be doing a lot better for the same or less amount of work at other places, financially. They're here for us and for the game, let's keep it that way.

And hey Avi, there's Simen and Ilona.

Used to be Andrew too, he was a good one wayyy in the past. Routhy won a few too.

It is with great reluctance that I allow admins to play on servers I administrate, specifically because I do not want it called into question, which in my opinion, it is all but a certainty that it will be.

Rest assured that no admin plays on any server in which they also have administrative rights. I will not stand for conflict of interest, or foul play by even admins.

They will gain no undue advantage on my watch.

Thanks Alexander, I couldn't find better words to describe how much we as admins still love the game and care about it.
And thats exactly the reason why we HAVE to play from time to time. I don't think that anyone of us would even try to go for the win but we need to play and mess around to stay in contact and see what the community really wants and feels.

When it comes to the point that persons are in charge of changes and updates, who doesn't even play or like the game is it already to late.

Also don't forget even if Admins are playing, MOST of the time they do not go for the win when they play. Just kinda hang out with friends and be semi-active. The only exception I can think of is when Tom played M2 and won, but that's about it.

Probably the best argument so far. I've never seen an admin go for the win while they were an admin. But Im sure if I look in HoF or ask around what you said about Tom will be true. So its extremely rare for an admin to go for win

Anyways, jokes aside, I think Ilona hit the nail on the head. Admins are the people who update, and shape the game. If they don't play, they won't know what to change, and how to change it. Simple as that.
