The practice of hunting whales for their skin and other parts is still present in Japan, even though it ha been banned worldwide.

What do you guys think of this?

I would say that it should be banned and that only it can be hunted with the written permission of a Tourism Official.

There is a limit, too.

i think some whale species are endangered and should not be hunted
and that there should also be limit (like blackrev said) to how many whales should be hunted
maybe if like there are more whales in the world than #, then you can hunt # of whales

but i personally do not like whale hunting and i do not think it should be done at all

The problem with stopping whale hunting is it's become part of our economy now. And you make quite a bit of yen off of it too. If we did stop whale hunting it would drastically pull down our economy due to the sudden stop in this source of money.

Besides, there are plenty out there still around the world. Surely us Japanese Whale Hunters couldn't single-handedly kill off ALL of them.

Also, my uncle and his sister's son are whale hunters, and he is actually a pretty nice guy. He's responsible for a fraction of our family's income because of what he does. You may say money isn't everything, but these days, it is. You need money for everything. I don't know the luxury of being poor, being from a rich family, but I do know without money you are VERY limited to what you eat, do, or sleep in.

No, there aren't that many whales left in the world. Take the West Pacific Grey Whale. There are less than a hundred of those left in the world. And wasn't that what people said about the Quagga?
