Yes, I really did do a debate out of this, but Aister's comment just struck a nerve with me. "We don't need idle conquers" is basically what it said. I am STRONGLY against that sentence. BD is simply going too low in population, that's a fact, and it's because it can't attract enough people that stay in it. That's basically because winning is pretty challenging, but also the only reason why to stay. If you're not winning you don't have a reason so stick around, and the winning circle is a bit tight, specially when comparing it to the thousands of people who still play this game, and probably the ten of thousands who used to play this game. So yeah, we need people that stay around just for the hell of it, or perhaps with some hope that they'll gain something in that stay with which they can win an era, or at least have a nice finish in one.
Of course, that always will bring the conflict that red supporters are what make this game free, and so even as much as BD would want balance, a reason to support must always exist and must be enticing enough to have as many supporters as possible. Still, there are other ways to balance, and that is if we have more god damn players around! Why would this bring balance? Because, in this game you DO get a reward (and a pretty good one by the way) to step over other players to get what you want. Conquering could be the one single most important income source ever; the problem is that it's gone stale (how can you when there's no more people to step over of?), because there's only like 1k players around and of those 1k, 100 are in the top 10 alliances which you have to suffer a lot to take out, and in the end they just rage quit leaving you without enough time to cash in an income worth the hassle.
So, WE NEED A REASON TO FIGHT FOR! Right now, not even victory is good enough: some people can win while sitting back and enjoying the show, then making wood of a fallen tree. Of course, that should still be possible, but not so damn easy as it is nowadays. There is absolutely no other way to kill the entire world without your entire alliance being heavy supporters. The only exception might be E1, and it hasn't been so lately. So, even if the ones we can get are idle colonies that simply enter one day, pick up any bonus they got, then leave, that is good enough: that's their choice, and their choice still helps BD and a lot: players will conquer them, keep them, get conquered because they took them, fight for them. People will see the 2k players-stacked worlds and will feel encouraged to get in there and rise above the mindless masses of players who come simply for the very small hope of entering every day, picking up some blues, storing them and try to rule some other era. I do think that such a thing is correct, righteous and NEEDED. Anyone that wishes to disagree in any point, please, PLEASE come forward and do so. I will not bite, I will simply respond. Nerve healed.
