Couldnt resist throwing my 2 cents in on this one.

I am certain that we will see the corporate / special interest media outline this as a gun control issue, and will likely work in concert with the various political talking heads whom already spearhead these initiatives, to assault the second amendment on the grounds that "this is why the people should not be allowed to have firearms".

With the ATT bill from the United Nations coming to the table, and Obama already pledging to sign it (mandates disarming americans), the timing seems awful convenient!

In my opinion though, if you disarm the people, you will only be disarming the legal owners. The nuts and baddies are still going to have these weapons, and that will make the rest of us easy pickins.

Really though, this guy was likely going to do something like this regardless of what was at his access. "Where there is a will, there is a way" as the old addage goes.

Instead, ponder this. How different could things have been if one or two responsible gun owners and CCW permit holders happened to be in that theatre that night, and exercising their right to bear arms? Who knows how many lives could have been saved?

Here is an example of how a reponsible gun owner can change the outcome of such events:

The ownership of bullet proof body armor should be looked at before gun ownership, in my opinion.

What use is there for body armor unless you plan to get into a shoot out?
There should definitely be certain requirements one must meet to attain a body armor license, equating with the grade of armor.

I don't live in America, but I assume most cops are not trained to/permitted to take head shots. Having access to this kind of stuff allows serial killers to take several shots to the chest, while killing innocents/law enforcement. More importantly, it gives criminals the confidence to commit serious crimes with the aid of a firearm.

The fact that he had tear gas, unidentifiable liquids and explosives in his apartment, and 6000 rounds of ammunition should raise some questions, no?

You know, the body armor is really a trivial issue. You might be able to fashion your own armor if you were really bent on getting some.

Thats not really the issue. The guy was done rampaging when cops got there anyway, and was actually waiting to be arrested like a good nutjob. I dont really see how body armor plays into this at all TBH. What does it matter when no one ever shot back at him anyway?

The issue here is that this is a prime example of why we need MORE education, and MORE states that mandate responsible CCW, not more gun legislation that makes it harder to learn how to be a responsible gun owner! Look around the internet, and you will be able to easily find statistical data where jurisdictions which began to issue CCW permits noticed a tangible reduction in violent crime and murders.

I didn't even read the article if I'm being honest. But I still see no reason why it should be available to purchase for the general public, and no doubt that there are cases where it plays a big role in crime involving guns.

It wasn't really a reply to the batman massacre, more just towards your point about how it will be turned into "lets ban guns".

Teargas is relatively easy to obtain. Especially if you know someone in law enforcement and SWAT operations teams. But really, you can find teargas quite easily. Specifically pepper spray, which is sold as a personal defense product on a regular basis.

As for the other explosives and liquids, its really not that hard to develop an explosive. I used to blow all kinds of things up when I was younger. You would be amazed at the the yield you can produce using household products. Thats not anything special. If the guy has weapons grade C-4 I would probably raise an eyebrow

As for the 6,000 rounds, if you dont own many guns, that can seem pretty crazy, but if you HAVE owned guns, you know that you and your buddies on a good night at the range could go through that relatively easily. Especially if the range (like the one near my house) allows you to rent fully automatic weapons to "play with" while you are there (dont worry, you have to take special courses to be allowed to use them)

Yeah, I dont have too much to say about body armor. I don't think its really an issue, as most law enforcement officers now carry AR-11's or AR-15's with teflon coated rounds as regular practice since those guys went on a spree in California about a decade back. Those guys had full body armor and the cops were at a loss at the time. Nationwide law enforcement learned from that one (i have a few cops in my family, so I remember the conversations).

I dont necessarily agree that you need to specifically restrict that too much. There are alot of jobs where things can get hazardous, and its nice to know that body armor is easily obtainable. My uncle runs a tow-service and impound yard, and he likes having body armor becuase you never know what you will run into on an impound etc. He has also carried a pistol in the tow truck ever since I can remember.

It said he was standing near his car. The guy just pulled off one of the worst shootings in American history and he stands near his car waiting for his arrest. If he wants to plead insanity.....
